An outbreak of respiratory illness caused by enterovirus D68 was sickening children across the nation this past fall. More than a hundred of the afflicted youngsters experienced a polio-like paralysis. While doctors found an association, they haven’t been able to pin the paralysis on the virus. Pediatric neurologist Teri Schreiner describes the neurological symptoms and how doctors are piecing together the puzzling illness.
