A medical group has come out with new guidelines for dealing with concussions in sport. The recommendations issued by an American Academy of Neurology panel included the idea that a qualified athletic trainer always be present at games. In addition, the group issued a position statement saying that calling for any athlete who is suspected of having a concussion to be removed from play until the athlete is evaluated by a neurologist or physician with training in the evaluation and management of sports concussion. The group is working to revise its guidelines for sports-related concussions. Will the new guidelines help protect the brains of athletes? We'll talk about it.
