After three weeks of debugging in the dingy basement of the Data General Corporation, the SciFri Book Club regroups to discuss Tracy Kidder’s 1981 true-tech tale, The Soul of a New Machine. The book—which won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award when it came out in 1981—tells the story of a small band of computer engineers rushing to create a new 32-bit minicomputer to compete with their corporate rivals, Digital Equipment Corporation.
