White Blood Cells' Battle Tactics

by Leslie Taylor

Video footage: B. McDonald and P. Kubes, Science, music by SYNTHAR, produced by anna rothschild, flora lichtman

Last week, the Science Friday team put together this video about neutrophils-- a common type of white blood cell that are the first immune cells to arrive at a site of infection.

The video features footage by Paul Kubes, of the University of Calgary, and his colleagues, who filmed neutrophils finding their way to a mouse's wounded liver in order to better understand how the cells are able to reach infected regions so quickly. Their work was published in the October 15th Issue of Science.
