Where are the gaps in our knowledge about the aging brain? This Friday, Ira will be talking with Ronald Petersen, director of the Mayo Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, about how far we are from finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease, an illness that afflicts one in eight older Americans, according to the Alzheimer's Association. In preparation for the discussion, here's a roundup of Science Friday coverage of recent breakthroughs in the detection and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
